Performance, Tuning & Modified Show 2008 incorporating Redline Rumble
Sunday 11th May with RWYB Saturday 10th May

The 2008 Performance, Tuning & Modified Show has been and gone, read the report below and view photos are on the 2008 Gallery page.

PTM Show 2008 Report

The PTM Show, in only its second year, has shifted up a gear and gone on to be an important fixture on the Santa Pod calendar. From Jap and American cars through to the very best from Europe, it was an awesome coming-together of anyone into performance cars. Oh, and did we mention… it was HOT!

The track was packed with Run What Ya Brung, Drag Demos, the HKS Drag Series, and the all-new Euro Sports Compact Race, and the rest of the site featured a drift area, dyno, handling track, show car paddock for the Meguiars Show & Go competition, trade stall and huge club displays. The PTM Show was almost too big to fit into one day.

The focus for many people was the Run What Ya Brung, and although a massive variety of cars were out there giving it large on the track, the queues were short and everyone got lots of runs in to make the RWYB classes hotly contested.

The RWYB class trophies went to the following drivers.

Class A - Front Wheel Drive

Paul Bargate - VW Scirocco

12.8385s @ 108.38mph

The HKS Drag Series brought to the drag strip the very fastest Japanese cars for round 1 of the championship. Although entries were thinned by breakages, there was some truly breathtaking racing going on, with close pairings throughout qualifying and eliminations. If you would like to read the full report, it is available on www.JapDragSeries.co.uk.

Also on track, the first ever Euro Sports Compact Race took place, and it was fantastic to bring together so many famous cars from different tuning scenes and run them together in proper drag racing eliminations. All entrants had to have European cars running European engines, and all had to be 6 or less cylinders. Front wheel drive and four wheel drive ruled, and VWs certainly made up the bulk of the field, but with a Lancia, MG and a Mini also entered and running competitively, it showed that everyone could compete. Read a full race report on the Euro Sports Compact page and watch out for a re-run at Marangoni USC in August! (www.UltimateStreetCar.co.uk).

Drag demos on track included Keith Ridley’s thundering V8 Escort, and Ray Comer’s Street Eliminator Chevrolet Camero. But even the awesome power of these two cars couldn’t compete with the thundering presence of the Firefore Jet car, which made two passes at over 250mph!

New for 2008 was the Show & Go competition, which allowed cars to score points both on the track and in the show paddock. Thanks to everyone that took part, it was great to see so many people try something completely new. The winning cars really did exemplify what the show & go is all about. A full points table is on the Show & Go page, the top 3 are below.

For those that wanted to do some cone-dodging, the handling track was the perfect solution! With a double slalom that increased in difficulty, a hairpin right-hander and a tough reverse-park manoeuvre included, it was deceptively difficult! Full times table on the Handling page.

At the top end of the pits was the un-missable drift track, with screaming engines and burning rubber… not to mention an awesome display of driving talent! Thanks to everyone who took part in the shows, we hope you enjoyed driving it as much as the spectators enjoyed viewing it. If you’re interested in getting into drifting, have a look at www.DWYB.co.uk.

Although the club displays were varied and numerous, top club of the day was Bad Boy Performance, who had a great mix of cars all polished to perfection and laid out beautifully. We also liked their enormous inflatable erection. Thanks to every club that turned up and supported the show though, we appreciate your support!
